Folkestone Boer War Volunteers

Christ Church in Folkestone was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1942. Only the bell tower now remains and the grounds have become a garden of remembrance. The Folkestone Families website has a brief description of that day.

The Boer War plaque

On the South wall of this bell tower is a plaque that has clearly been there a while. It records the names of the volunteers from Folkestone who served in the Boer War. The inscription at the top reads:

Public Record
of the volunteers from Folkestone
and district who served in
the South African war
1899-1902

There are four panels of names, which are listed on this site on Panel One, Panel Two, Panel Three and Panel Four. In addition, there is an alphabetical list of all the surnames on the plaque.

I do not know anything about the plaque other than the names and details actually on it, but if you should wish to contact me for any reason, please email me. All pictures on this site are ©Chris Kellers 2002.
